...not more model aircraft. Anyone want to guess the odds of me completing this before the F-35 enters service?

I wish I had more time to build models. It's been so long since I did my last one.

Even if you don't even open the box, it'll still be higher qaulity than the actual f-35, why can't the US have nice things, like th f-22, a good fighter that at the rate we're going with the f-35 will end up costing less to buy than the f-35, and the f-22 is a much better fighter plane than the f-35. Our government decides to cut buying all of the good stuff, namely the f-22, and develop a worse fighter that keeps going up in cost. Its also the same with NASA, the only government agency that doesn't waste all of their money gets all of their funding cut. And even if you do never open the box, you'll probably get it done before the f-35 goes into service or becomes useful

Btw, when I read your title, I read it as "I need to buy more pants" and immediately thought itwas doge demuro thinking he needs to buy pants so he's not arrested for public indecency when he stops eating oreos and leaves his home to go get more Oreos from the store.

I concur, NASA is way underfunded.

I have this problem. HMS Warspite has been sitting half-finished on my bookshelf for over a year, and I had to chuck out a Typhoon as the fuselage halves warped out of shape whilst I was overseas...

Your rant about the F-22 and F-35 makes no sense.

The F-22 doesn't have the same role as the F-35. It's an air superiority fighter whereas the F-35 is a multi-role fighter.

Honestly the F-35 isn't that bad, it's just plagued with problems because the military brass asked it to do too much.

Exactly. They tried to build a stealthy, multi-role, multi-service aircraft, with STOVL, CTOL and CATOBAR variants, and with component production spread around the world. It's no wonder the damn things cost so much.

Airplanes aren't good at being a jack of all trades. I've always thought the F-35 was a stupid idea executed as well as it could be.

For instance, the VTOL. VTOL is a great idea in principle, but so damn difficult to do. Lockheed's solution is fantastic for making VTOL work: dedicated lift fan coupled to the main turbine. Except it's a horrible idea when trying to make a capable fighter jet because the 95% of the flight regime where it isn't using the lift fan it's just carrying dead weight.

It'd be like carrying 4 full size spares in your car just in case you hit a spike strip.

I try to defend the airplane because too often situations like this get blamed on the company who designed the jet and the engineers behind it rather than the idiotic requirements in the first place.
